TMT~Thursday Morning Thought~Aug 21

It has been far too long since my last post. Since my last post, life has been busy. The children’s ministry just finished a great summer, kicked off an exciting school year, and continues to search for faithful workers to serve and minister to children and their families. Fellowship Church has also seen tremendous change and growth. Fellowship welcomed in Michael Cates to the Worship Ministry and it would not be surprising to see him have an impact in the future of the children’s choir. Fellowship Church also just recently adopted a “SafeKids” policy, which works to ensure that children, students, families, church volunteers, church leaders and the church community is protected by reducing the risk of abuse of children and students. As you can imagine this is quite an endeavor, and one that has been met with great positivity! All of this makes for an environment that is abuzz with excitement, but is also an environment that can become busy. Personally, I have noticed that my own life has become exceedingly crowded with good stuff. We recently bought our first home, I recently went through the tremendous weight of recovering from a minor heart surgery, and my wife and I continue to prepare for the birth of our second child. I live in an environment that is filled with excitement and with good stuff, but my life along with many families is continuing to get crowded and busy.
This week children, two years old to fifth grade, will learn the implications of the simple lesson found in the story of “God creates Adam and Eve.” While our lives continue to fill with great stuff, it is important to realize the implications of how important God saw it to create people. Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful!” There are times when despite the busyness we need to stop and reflect that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that he created Adam and Eve to look on God in awe at his love and purpose for us. Take time to reflect and connect as a family of how God created each of us as incredibly important to Him (Gen. 2:4-22). Strengthen your family’s faith learning and growth at home with this easy idea:
- Parents: Look for something unique and wonderful in each child and then tell your children what you find. Your kids will never tire of hearing praise from you! And they’ll want to tell you what’s unique and wonderful about you, too. When you’re alone with each child this week–at bedtime, on the way to school, at bath time, or anytime–recount that child’s “fearfully and wonderfully made” birth story.
- Families: Stop and reflect what you as a family can thank God for, and what as a family you talk to God about on a daily basis. You may realize that as a family you need to stop more often and make time to grow as a family through conversation, study, and prayer. Remember that this does not need to be another overwhelming busy thing, but it is essential that it is intentionally needed.
- Pray: Lord, thank you for making and caring about each of us. Help us remember every day how much you value us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Next week, we will see what else God has in store to teach us through His Word. It is good to be back and I pray you will keep reading and take time to reflect on how God looks at your worth. You are worth more than diamonds or gold. When humankind was first created, He distinguished His workmanship as “very good.” Remember that, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” He deserves our undivided attention; so, make it a point to stop for a moment this week to reflect on His goodness!
